Keeping On Top of Pests: Termites

Pests can cause real problems around your home. Last year, termites started to attack the fabric of my wooden home. I was devastated when I realised how serious the problem could be if it was not addressed. I started to panic but my wife calmed me down and told me to ring the local pest control contractor. The contractor came out to my property the next day and treated the wood with a solution which would kill the termites. Thankfully, we caught the problem at an early stage so my home is going to be OK. I hope you like this blog.

Keep Pests Away: How to Prepare for Your Pest Inspection

Now that winter is just a couple of months away, it's time to schedule a pest inspection for your home. You might think that pests only come out during the warmer months, but that's not the case. There are actually quite a few pests that can make your life miserable during the fall and winter. Some of those pests include termites, roaches, mice, and cockroaches. Before you begin your fall and winter pest control treatments, it's important to identify each potential pest problem throughout your home, and yard. That's where the pest inspection comes into the picture. If you've scheduled a pest inspection for your home, here are three steps that will help you prepare for the appointment.

Empty the Cupboards

If you're scheduled for a residential pest inspection, you'll need to empty the cupboards. You might not have seen any signs of pest activity in your cupboards, but that doesn't mean there isn't any. Most pests are incredibly good at hiding, which means you might not see them when you open the cupboard doors. That's why you need to empty the cupboards. Once the cupboards are empty, the pest inspector will be able to identify the tell-tale signs of pest infestation, such as droppings and egg remnants.

Move the Furniture

If you're getting your home ready for a pest inspection, and you haven't moved the furniture away from the wall, now's the time to do that. Your pest inspector will need to get a good look at the surface area along the walls. These are the areas where ant trails and mice droppings will be located. If you haven't moved the furniture before your appointment, the pest inspector won't be able to identify potential pest infestations. To ensure an effective inspection, move your furniture into the centre of each room that will be inspected.

Remove the Debris

If you've arranged for an exterior pest inspection as well, you'll need to clear the area along the foundation. This is especially important where vegetation is concerned. A variety of pests may be hiding in the vegetation that's growing up against your home. Some of those pests include mice, rats, and snakes. To make sure your pest inspector is able to identify that type of pest activity, ensure a clear path around the perimeter of your home.

Don't let pests become a serious problem this winter. Use the steps provided above to prepare for your home pest inspection.
